On Saturday, March 9th, the Atlanta Yelp Elite Squad came together for a morning of volunteering during our first official Yelp Helps event at Open Hand Atlanta! While it’s well known that Yelp Elites love to support local businesses, perhaps it’s lesser known that they have a passion for helping local non-profit organizations as well!
Open Hand Atlanta serves the Atlanta community by providing nutritional meals for those impacted by HIV/AIDS, non-HIV related critical illnesses, the disabled, and the homebound elderly. Every day Open Hand prepares, packages and delivers over 5,000 meals a day!
Our group of Elites arrived at 9:00 am for a quick orientation before getting decked out in aprons, gloves and hairnets to start the work at hand! There were three assembly lines with large batches of prepared foods ready to be packaged. The meal packing area was buzzing as old school R&B played in the background and attendees got to know each other and the organization better.
Time really does fly when you’re having fun! Before they knew it, the session was over and this group of superheroes packaged 1,627 meals!
To top off a wonderful morning of service, our friends at Poke Burri provided mini Yelpurritos for our amazing volunteers. This sushi burrito is chock-full of salmon, tuna, avocado, carrots, cabbage and tempura flakes and then dressed in eel sauce and wasabi mayo. This item is only available in March on the secret menu, so make sure you visit the eatery in the We Suki Suki food hall in East Atlanta before it disappears!
What an incredible feeling to be able to be a part of the amazing work Open Hand is doing in our Atlanta community. Be sure to read the heartfelt reviews and check out their website for more info and other volunteer opportunities!
