We can’t believe that another year of #YelpHelps – our monthly volunteering opportunities for Yelpers, friends, and family – has gone by. We were able to work on islands, in gardens, in bike shops, at soup kitchens, with horses, and more. It’s such a unique way to see and support the state of Maine! Our autumnal session started at the Greater Portland Landmarks – their mission is to preserve and revitalize the city’s legacy of historic parks, neighborhoods, and buildings – where we made birthday cards for the Confetti Foundation. Our talented crew took snaps of some of their art, so be sure to check it out!Melissa D: “This was my very first time partaking in a #YelpHelps event, and it did not disappoint! The Greater Portland Landmarks building is an absolutely beautiful space (we are oh so spoiled as Yelpers), and we were lucky to hear a bit about its history as well as Greater Portland Landmarks’ work around Portland. I was immediately very intrigued by this organization and their dedication to preserving parts of Portland that I know and love. Thank you, thank you for having us! The event itself was to benefit the Confetti Foundation by making birthday cards for children in the hospital. It was great to see so many Yelpers come together on this simple and yet incredibly meaningful task.
During the Thanksgiving season we headed over to Bayview Heights – an independent housing community for persons 62 years or older located in Portland’s Munjoy Hill neighborhood – to make crafts and listen to seasonal songs sung by the sensational Carmine Terracciano. We are so thankful to Volunteers of America Northern New England for setting up this opportunity for us each year! Check out all of our turkey tissue paper art projects here!
Shane L: “Every year we attend this volunteering event and every year we leave with our hearts filled and our holiday spirits up! Thanks so much for Volunteers of America giving us the opportunity to do this for our communities, our relationship with this organization in New England is bar none the best!!”
Our final #YelpHelps of the year was at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland’s annual holiday party. Our crew worked in the gift room cashing folks out, directing traffic, helping to “Stuff The Suburu”, and assisting folks with their wreath and tree needs. It’s always amazing to see how many people come to support local animals in need – many even found forever homes that day! Photos and reviews of our festive day can be found here.
Kate M: “Absolutely love ARL. They do amazing work and take such good care of these animals. This holiday event is fantastic, fresh pine trees, handmade crafts, a Subaru stuffed with donations!”
#YelpHelps is returning for its FIFTH year in 2019!
