Even if you’ve never worked in sales before, it’s likely you’ve got some transferrable skills that will help you succeed at Yelp. The Muse recently rounded up advice from sales hiring managers, including our own Senior Director of Sales Training, Tom Feulner, on how to demonstrate five qualities that every company looks for during the hiring process.
First off, it’s expected that you’ll need to get up to speed. No one thinks a new hire will be able to wax poetic about all of Yelp’s offerings on their first day. That’s why Yelp has developed a thorough 90-day Yelp Sales Development Program to onboard new hires and give them everything they need to succeed. With that in mind, it’s important to show that you’re not only capable of learning new skills, but that you’re excited about the challenge. Make sure to demonstrate your “coachability” during the interview.
“You shouldn’t just be open to feedback, you should crave it,” Tom says. “It’s expected you’ll make mistakes, and mistakes are fine, as long as you’re learning from them. The best hires can implement feedback quickly and effectively.”
