Last week, our friends at The Capital Grille invited the Yelp Elites for a five-star-studded evening of sipping and swirling at Yelp's Generous Pour, held in the incomparable historic State Theatre lobby.
The Capital Grille's annual Generous Pour promotion runs until September 1st and you should run (not walk) there to check it out. It features seven remarkable, highly rated California wines that can be custom paired with your meal in any combination for just $25. And they aren't foolin' when they call this generous.
A select group of Elites were treated to an exclusive educational reception to learn about these fantastic wines while sampling some of this establishments tastiest bites like wasabi tuna tartare, spicy calamari, tenderloin crostinis, lobster-crab cakes, salmon with dill cream and heirloom tomato bruschetta. For dessert, yelpers noshed on mini creme brulee bites and a special cocoa-laden delight. Beth J says, "The lucious flourless chocolate torte found the perfect balance between rich chocolate flavor and melt-in-your-mouth decadence."
The main event though? Wine, wine and more wine. Jacky W loved the program, saying, "The presenter (Sam from Wirtz Beverage) was so smart and interesting—as we sipped, I could almost imagine that I was in California among the grapevines." Not only did Sam drop a barrelful of knowledge on us with each new vintage, but he made it fun and approachable as we worked (and played) our way around the Russian River Valley and beyond. Diana D had a hard time playing favorites, but was partial to the light and refreshing whites, "Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc 2011… welcome to my life."
At the end of the evening, The Capital Grille surprised guests with gift bags that included a gift certificate for a free lunch, grilling tips and a jar of Kona spice rub. Generous doesn't begin to describe our hosts for the evening, and we can't thank them and the State Theatre enough for a wonderful night filled with food, wine and new Yelp friends!
If you'd like to salivate even more on your keyboard, we don't blame you. You're welcome to read the rave reviews on Yelp (or write one yourself if you were there—just remember to hold off on your reviews of the participating businesses until you've had a more typical customer experience). Make sure to check out all the party pics on Flickr too (thanks to the lovely Bethany Hall!).
