The ever-popular Tobacco Road Sports Café recently expanded their little local empire to Chapel Hill… and invited Yelp to come check it out! To mark our first-ever 2013 event, and get our newly minted Elite Squad acquainted, our kick-off event was Elites only in a sit-down dinner setting! What better way to break the ice, and celebrate all the work Elites' palates, iPhone cameras, and keyboards endured to earn that shiny new badge?
Assigned seating gave everyone a chance to meet new Yelpers. And the private room was soon filled with fifty local foodies making friends! Chef Patrick created an inspired four-course menu, each prepared to pair with a delicious draught courtesy of Great Lakes Brewing,
demonstrating the venue's prowess for serving delicious food in a sleek
sports bar atmosphere. As Patrick put it, "We're really a restaurant
that just happens to have a lot of TVs!"
Course one paired Great Lakes Irish Ale with rosemary-mushroom brochette over cumin-scented potato cake with slaw and dijon mustard cream. The second course featured melt-in-your-mouth smoked pork belly, tomato, arugula, and pesto aili on grilled ciabatta, washed back with an Eliot Ness Amber Lager. Next, plates of cocoa-coffee rubbed petite tenderlion drizzled with peppered blackberry gastrique complemented a Great Lakes Porter. And to round out the evening, cinnamon apple bread pudding and a scoop of butter pecan Lumpy's (in Wake Forest!) ice cream paired wonderfully with the grapefruit notes in the Commodore Perry IPA.
Everyone departed with a full belly and a Tobacco Road backpack filled with schwag — including the Yelp's on Tap pint glass debut! With special thanks and 5 shiny stars to Amanda at Great Lakes, Erica, Patrick, and the entire Tobacco Road staff for making our first event of 2013 a smashing success.
And here's to a great year ahead!
