The Twin Cities Elite Squad brought their sweet behinds to Bryn Mawr last week for Yelp's Sugar Rush! Melissa L says, "Seriously. Even though the FDA disapproves of a large sugar intake, I do not feel guilty from Yelp's Sugar Rush. On the contrary, I feel GREAT." As she should… it was quite a party! Our hosts at Honeyshine (dressed as dentists) could not have been more welcoming into their whimsical home and gift boutique. The owners Adam and Daisy offered a 15% discount for guests and provided the perfect setting for a warm summer evening full of delectable desserts, all made right here in the Twin Cities!
This sampling of our metro's culinary confections included pumpkin chai and apple dumpling donuts from Mojo Monkey Donuts in St. Paul. Yelpers were able to visit with the owner Lisa and her adorable daughter to chat all about the unique creations coming out of the W 7th shop like Arnie Palmer donuts, maple bacon long johns and more!
For those who needed to chill out after a hot day, St. Paul's new Sweet Science Ice Cream was on hand with gourmet organic ice cream pops. Owner Ashlee prides herself on small batch craft ice cream and vibrant flavors like root beer float and the seasonal crowd-favorite—sweet corn blueberry. Rachel E liked it so much that she has "already marked their upcoming tasting (September 8th and October 6th both from 4-8 pm) so I can taste some more brilliant inventions they throw my way. Pear riesling sorbet and blood orange cream? Genius." Aside from their tastings, you can find Sweet Science on Gastrotruck, with more locations coming soon!
We didn't forget the cocoa either! S-Squared Sweets brought their addictively salty-sweet dark chocolate and milk chocolate buttercrisp toffees to share. So addictive, in fact, that Kate C wanted to steal the trays and "run down the street shoveling them into" her face. That's love, people. Find S-Squared at local grocers, fromageries, liquor stores, gift shops and more!
The beverages weren't slackin' either! Yelpers were treated to the full spectrum of the locally crafted Joia Soda, including two brand new delicious flavors: Ginger Apricot All-Spice and Orange Jasmine Nutmeg. If you're getting thirsty just reading about it, Joia is available all over the Twin Cities at local cafes, restaurants and grocery stores.
And our favorite cideries joined in on the fun too and hosted generous pours of Crispin Browns Lane and Fox Barrel's crisp, snappy new pear cider, English Perry. Tall boys have never tasted so sweet… and refreshing!
Ryan P says, "What I really liked about this event, was that it featured small local companies I hadn't heard of doing amazing things. You can tell they each had a great pride for their product, and deservedly so." In addition to sipping, shopping and sampling their hearts out, yelpers paired up for a photo scavenger hunt using their smartphones, Yelp apps and eagle eyes to capture all kinds of amazing party fun!
