Friday the 13th Fun for Yelpers in South Bay!

Not only did last Friday mark the halfway to Halloween point on the calendar, but it was also Friday the 13th. So it only makes sense that South Bay-Peninsula Elites were trick-o-treated to a Yelperstitious Affair @ San Jose Woman's Club. Dare to read more???

Thanks to amazing DJ Tanoa Stewart (aka King of the SF Zombie Prom) and a little work from Yelp interns Jason O and Courtney M, this vintage ballroom was decked out with coffins, fog, jack-o-lanterns and a caged creepy clown. Not to be outdone, Elites and their +1's came dressed to impress, everything from Day of the Dead face paint to zombies and even a few sexy getups from last year's festivities. Elite Anna K "Really wanted to go for the whole zombie white face with blood. My costume didn't really translate but I was a dead..child…ghost? Was "beheaded" with red lipstick and had a creepy teddy bear and owl kid backpack. This event really made me want to go trick-or-treating." Your outfit was fab, Anna!

As for refreshments, there was booze coming out from every corner, including Freixenet sparkling wine, Strike Brewing Company Wit Ale, J. Lohr Syrah and Chardonnay, Magners Pear Cider (which, according to Meg G "packed a surprising punch!") and Uncommon Brewers' Siamese Twin Belgian brew. If you weren't a drinker, ZICO chocolate coconut water was there to quench yelpers' thirst. Hayne P is "a huge fan of ZICO coconut water. I got to try their chocolate flavor! And I was soooo surprised. Very rich, and like chocolate milk, except better, because you don't get that coating in your mouth after. Slight hint of coconut."

There were plenty of finger foods on-hand as well! Bibo's, who recently opened a new location on Bird Ave in San Jose, brought slices of cheesy garlic pesto pizza, Peter's Kettle Korn handed out packages of their regular flavor as well as horchata popped treats, which Yelpers like Alea G "aboslutely loved. I should have known better than to think I wouldn't finish in one night." Local chocolatier Cocotutti had caramel-filled chocolate eyeball candies, which Terre P described as "so realistic looking it was perfect!" Muhahaha!

Because Halloween parties are all about having fun, The Laugh Box was there doing themed flip books which everyone was dying to try! Michelle K was "seriously in love with the flip book photo booth. Greatest. Idea.Ever. We had so much playing around." As you can see from their video footage taken that night, everyone had a blast! To add to the spooktacular entertainment, local Tarot card reader Francine was on-hand to predict everyone's future. And of course the DJ played all sorts of creepy tunes like Monster Mash, Thriller, The Adams Family theme song and The Time Warp.

The best part of the evening? Elites and their guests raised close to $800 for Sacred Heart Community Services, a local non-profit dedicated towards helping fight poverty in San Jose. Vicky T, a long-time Elite, was extra-excited that we partnered with such a great local organization: "One of my favorite CBOs Sacred Heart got some love. If you have not volunteered there on a Saturday or during their School Supply Drive I highly suggest you take 3 hours on a Saturday and help out an amazing cause. I have students who volunteer there…. as well as others who utilize their services. They are a huge asset in San Jose..thank you for all you guys do!!
